I checked The Brothers out but haven't started reading it yet. I'm debating whether or not I should; it'd be nice to know what's already been written, but at the same time I don't want to subconsciously borrow too much from Stewart or Milton or anyone else. Hmm...

As for the progress of the novel, I haven't started writing it yet (too many projects! :)); it's just been percolating on the back burner. Soon, though...

Ben: The Brothers, as I recollect, doesn't deal much with Lucifer's downward fall. It begins with the war in full swing. I think exploring the slow progression from Son of the Morning to the Father of all Lies would be interesting.

I read the first two pages of The Brothers at BYU Bookstore several months ago, long before I ever thought of writing a book like this. I'd better go back and read the whole thing, just to make sure mine will be different enough to be worth writing... :)

A great concept. The first of Chris Stewart's fairly new "The Great and Terrible" novel series tells a similar story. Check it out at DeseretBook (http://deseretbook.com/store/product?sku=4581793)
It's interesting - he had to make a bunch of assumptions as you discussed above, but it made for a somewhat thought provoking read.
