One time on my mission my trainer was sick in bed with stomach problems. So in an attempt to find something to help I just asked her if she would like a mint, because sometimes that is soothing to the stomach. So after thinking about it for a while she said "yeh, that actually sounds good." Then I realized that I didn't have any mints. ooops!

I once went over to visit some guy friends of mine in my apartment complex. The lights were off and there were obviously people in their apartment watching a movie. I don’t ordinarily just walk into people’s apartments, but I knew these guys really well, and I didn’t want to make them pause the movie, so I walked in and said “Hi, fellahs!” At that moment I realized that it wasn’t my two friends Mike and Chris watching a movie with other ward members (as they were apt to do)—it was my friend Chris watching a movie with a girl! He was on a date! When comprehension came to me, I began to apologize and was preparing to dash out the door, but rather than let me escape, Chris greeted me warmly, stopped the movie, turned on the light, and introduced me to his date. Awkward! I didn’t know what to do. I looked frantically around the room, trying to find something to deflect attention away from the awkwardness of the moment. Then, spotting an instrument case on the floor, I said to the girl, “Oh, has Chris been playing his saxophone for you?” The girl glared at me through narrowed eyes and said, “No—but I’ve heard him play it *lots* of times.” She was obviously extremely annoyed. Fortunately Chris didn’t prolong my stay after that, and I was able to leave shortly thereafter.
