Yet another flurry. My mind has felt like a tornado these past few days, so I wouldn’t be surprised if this is all incoherent. Watch, I’ll come back tomorrow and read what I’ve written in horror. This is why I rarely read my own blog — once I’ve written a post, it’s solidly in the past, no looking back. :)
1. A co-worker showed me the Bose suspension videos. (They’re at the bottom of the sidebar. I’d recommend “Speed bump” first, then “Bump test track,” and then whichever others pique your interest.) Amazing stuff, really. I’ve gotten so used to normal car suspensions that I didn’t even consider this to be possible (or at least it never crossed my mind). This is why innovation is so cool.
2. Considering how much I love books and printing, I wouldn’t at all be surprised if ink flows in my veins instead of blood. :P
3. I was reading Ari Rafaeli’s Book Typography last week and came across this humorous tidbit on page 73. He’s quoting from The Oxford Guide to Style at the end: “It may be preferable to give the birth-date of a living person as (b. 1920) rather than (1920– ), so as not to ‘connote undue anticipation.’”
4. Saturday morning I put my toothpaste on my toothbrush, then realized Mother Nature was calling and didn’t want any delays, so I placed the toothbrush inside my medicine cabinet. Half an hour later, when I was halfway up to campus, I suddenly remembered the toothbrush. “Oh no!” I thought, feeling like it was one of those dreams where you walk outside and realize you forgot your pants. Luckily it was a rather empty Saturday, not a soul in sight. I was also fortunate in that I didn’t have anything scheduled for a while, so I returned home, brushed, and walked back up to campus, feeling much more socially acceptable. :P (More exercise is always good, right?)
5. My contacts seem to be getting more irritable in the mornings. It’s not too bad, which is why I keep wearing them, but it does have the unfortunate effect of making my eyes rather bloodshot. And that paints a convincing illusion that would almost lead one to look for scars on the inside of my arms. Not exactly the image I want to portray. :P Maybe someday I’ll get laser eye surgery. Glasses are okay, but contacts are better — peripheral vision and all. I suppose I could eat more carrots…
The end.
