Food in heaven

Will there be food in heaven? Your thoughts, please.

Secondly, and far more importantly, will there be books? :) The floor is now yours.

Funny you mention this, just today I was reading the part in The Two Towers where the Ent, Treebeard gives Merry and Pippin his special drink, and then Merry and Pippin eat some of their elf-cake “more because they felt that eating was a necessary part of breakfast than because they felt hungry.” I could really relate to that.

And then I started thinking about how it would be to just drink glass of something and have it sustain you the whole day. I think it would be sad, that would take away a big part of my life–I love eating! There are so many good flavors. I sure hope there will be food in heaven :) I don’t picture there being any meat eating going on, but I think I’d be fine with that… Maybe it will be optional.

Now books on the other hand, I’m not too sure about ;) (j/k of course) What about the scriptures?

I think that in heaven there is a great library with every virtuous, lovely, and praiseworthy (AKA the best books) books that has ever written on this and every other world of God’s creation. Personally, I look forward to the reading.

As for food. If they don’t have food in heaven, then I shall just have to visit a world or two of my (my = me and my husband) creation just to enjoy some good old fashioned home cooking. ;-)

I think that if there is food in heaven, it will be so splendidly delicious that we will not need any meat to satisfy our appetites and if there is no food in heaven we won’t miss it because it wouldn’t be heaven if we wanted it but couldn’t have it.

Books are evidently already there (Rev 20:12) so I think there will be a never-ending supply of absolutely fascinating books! I like to think about that last verse in the book of John: “And there are also many other things which Jesus did, the which if they should be written every one, I suppose that even the world itself could not contain the books that should be written. Amen.”

Heaven could contain them all!

I don’t know if there is food in heaven, but the scriptures testify of resurrected beings eating food.

The scriptures also tell of books in heaven. If the books in heaven contain a record of the lives of all of the inhabitants that ever lived on earth, I think that there will be more than just the virtuous, lovely and good report contained in The Book of Life. I am more curious as to the use the books will be put to. Will they be read at the judgment seat and then archived, or will they be used as text books for future generations that are preparing to come an earth?

Holly: Good points. :) It’s hard to imagine there being any carnivorism going on up there, since there’s no death, but maybe they have meat substitutes somehow. I wouldn’t put it past them. :) And I agree, the pleasure in eating comes more from the eating itself than from the being full after you’re done. (At least for me. I’m always sad when breakfast is over.) As for books, well, eating while reading is heaven to me. :)

Julia: It’s a heady thought to think that perhaps some of the books we humans are writing down here will end up getting cataloged in the Library of Heaven. Or that heavenly orchestras and choirs are performing Beethoven’s 9th. (Just imagine that!) Or that some of the best art down here is displayed in the galleries up there. Wow.

Shirley: A good point on both counts. :) Fruit is already so splendidly delicious that I wouldn’t miss meat all that much. Just give me some mangoes. :) As for John’s statement, maybe heaven is just a huge library. That would be cool. :)

J: Also good points. I’m rather anxious to find out what kind of studying went on in the pre-mortal existence — was there any book learning? If so, who wrote the books? And are they books as we know them, or some other kind of format? My passion for books doesn’t seem to be a purely terrestrial love, in any case. Hmm.
