Candle in the darkness

Categories: Writing, Theatre

I announced this before but figured it wouldn’t be a bad idea to mention it again. The New Play Project has accepted one of my plays, Candle in the Darkness, as part of their fall religious plays festival (which is called Thorns & Thistles). My play is about sharing the gospel, and it will be performed with three other short plays this Thursday through Saturday (October 11-13) at 7 p.m. each night in the Bullock Room, located on the 3rd floor of the Provo City Library (in the west half of the building). Admission is $5. While I don’t think ticket reservations will be necessary, they can be made by e-mailing newplayproject@gmail.com. And you can see the website for more details.

End shameless self-promotion. :) If any of you are in town and have some time and money to kill, I’d love to see you at the play. But if not, that’s quite okay. :)

Man, I wish I could go! I hope that those who live in Provo appreciate and take advantage of the many opportunities they have to enjoy cultural events like this one - and on the cheap! It’s not so easy elsewhere. Carpe diem!!

Fear not, I recorded it last night and will be uploading the video to Google Video and Facebook within the next few days. (Opening night went quite well, by the way. I felt good about it.)

Just wanted to say that Ben’s play was excellent! Two of my daughters and I went last night and we enjoyed it a lot. It was very funny and very serious–a combination I really like. I would love to see it again on the Google Video. It gave me a lot to think about.

Thanks, Ben! I knew it would be good. :)

Amen to Shirley. Ben, you had the audience chuckling the whole way through! And who knew the audience would feed interpretation into the whole bread thing…

Anyway, bravo!

Shirley: Thanks! :) I’m glad you liked it. I wasn’t sure it would actually be any good — I mean, I thought it was okay, but there’ve been so many times when I thought things were a particular way and ended up being completely, utterly wrong, so I didn’t know if I was right. Now I’ve just got to write a full-length play…

Hilary: Thanks! Truth be told, they laughed a lot more than I was expecting — even at parts I hadn’t intended to be funny. (The actor did a great job of making them funny, though. :)) I was overawed by the whole bread interpretation, too. It had never even crossed my mind. But it was cool. :)

Thanks to Shirley for her kind review, by the way. :)
