When those aren't available, I use a mechanical pencil: I draw a faint line where I ended up, and the pencil then clips onto five pp. or so, making it super-easy to re-find my place, and the mark is easy enough to erase. But I definitely prefere option #1, since #2 makes book stacking difficult. P.S. It's a kind of phobia for me. I love people, I'm not shy, but I have body claustrophobia, which is bad, because I've been singing in choirs for years. Somehow I'd get stuck behind the french horn section of the orchestra, seeing them sit on their cushy chairs with their music stands and leg room everywhere while I'm sweating between a bunch of altos on the swaying risers. ~shudder~ And airports-it almost makes me cry to walk through them!
