An ungodly hour

Categories: Random

For the past couple of weeks I’ve been waking up — inexplicably — between 3:55 and 3:57 almost every morning. I don’t know why. I thought that maybe my alarm was going off early, but it’s a calm waking-up, like my body just wants to wake up at that time, not the jump out of bed that occurs when my alarm really does go off. The thought that perhaps I’m dreaming it has occurred to me, but no, I usually write my Facebook happy birthdays first thing in the morning, and checking the timestamps on them proves that I really was up at that time. I go to bed straight away after that, of course, since even I like to get some sleep on occasion. But I go to bed at 11 or so — why would my body want to wake up after only five hours of sleep?

I don’t get it. The only possible reason I can think of is that perhaps the train goes by at that time and I hear the horn in the distance…maybe? Except I never hear it after I’ve woken up, so I’m not entirely convinced.

The more intriguing possibilities :P include ghosts visiting my bedroom, aliens trying to send messages to my brain, the synchronization of my body’s internal rhythm with Google’s stock prices, and my roommates playing a prank on me (except they’re all in bed when it happens, and would they really wake up at 3:55 every morning to play tricks? I don’t think so).

Anyway, tomorrow I’m going to wake up at 3:50 and see if anything happens at 3:55. If it’s a ghost, don’t worry, I’ll blog about it, and I’ve got my camera at the ready. :P

That’s insane. I often don’t even go to bed until 3 or 4.

I’m kind of like Katherine…but getting better. Sleep ซิ Crowder!

It’s probably Lloyd popping in to visit.

I’m sure you’ve thought of this - but since you didn’t mention it, I will. :) What about daylight savings time ending?

Katherine: There’ve been mornings when I woke up (at 5) and my roommates were still up. Not many of them, but there you have it. Dare I ask what time you wake up? ;)

Barney: Yeah, yeah. :P

sixline: LOL :) (For the clueless, which is most of you, Lloyd is one of the characters in my novel.)

Holly: Huh, I hadn’t thought of DST. It seems like it didn’t start until noticeably after the change, but then again maybe I just wasn’t paying attention. This has never happened before, though, even with DST. Weird. And here I was hoping it was a ghost… ;)
