Inside the photography box

Categories: Creativity, Photography

I just realized that it’s been almost two months since I uploaded any photography. Amend that: it’s been almost two months since I took any photographs. Not sure what’s up with that. I have a guess, though: I’ve gotten bored with it.

Not with photography, but with my camera, with the same sorts of pictures I’ve been taking, all in the same places. It’s a rut. I could easily blame it on my camera, but that’s lame — I’ve taken thousands of pictures with it so far, and it’s not like its picture-taking potential could just…evaporate.

All it is, really, is that I’ve put my photography into a box and shut the lid. I just have to think outside the box and get creative with it. I have to reinvent myself as a photographer. Easy.

;)

You should pick a new place, take a date, and go on a photo walk. She’ll make you think outside the box if the new place doesn’t on its own. It was a lot of fun when I did it last week (except that I had allergies and kept sneezing and chasing away the birds I was trying to get a picture of). Some of the shots we copied from each other, but otherwise we came out with totally different perspectives on the same place. It makes for good variety, too: since you’ve got someone with you you’re not going to let yourself take all the same kinds of shots all day long for fear of boring her to death when you try to show them off.

Not a bad idea — I like it. :) I’ll try it some time and let you know how it turns out.

Nice — thanks! I still haven’t done much photography (read: any) lately. Part of me thinks I need a new camera and that’s the problem, but I don’t believe it. I just need to do it.
