Heaven on earth

Stake conference today. This was my second one since my calling as stake executive secretary, and it’s been really interesting seeing this sort of thing from the inside — all the preparations that go into it, how it miraculously comes together, everything. It really is a miracle.

And a busy miracle at that. Today has been jam-packed solid from beginning to end, with hardly a moment to breathe. (Okay, that’s not quite true. There were a few times in the first two sessions when I started nodding off. :P) Busy, yes, but a very good kind of busy — the kind that leaves me feeling full instead of empty. Sure, I had very little free time today, but having free time isn’t what it’s about. This was time well spent.

And of course the reason we do what we do is so that the Spirit can be there and touch the hearts of everyone present. That is success. It’s kind of like charity — without the Spirit at meetings like these, they’re nothing. Today the Spirit was there. And it was great.

It was also great seeing how willing people were to help out with everything. I realize that the people in the Church aren’t perfect yet, and yes, there are often a lot of problems, but when it works, wow. It’s beautiful. Selflessness is so beautiful. Unity, too. Yesterday we went to the temple as a stake presidency (along with the stake Relief Society presidency), and the oneness we felt there — and that we felt with everybody at the conferences today, really — is a taste of what Zion will be like. No petty factions. No bickering or one-upping or any of that. Just love. Faith. Hope. And lots of hard work. :)

Ah, I love the Church. (By which I mean I love the gospel, by which I mean I love Christ, by which I mean I love Heavenly Father. Just in case any of you thought I was overly fond of the organizational structure and thus missing the mark. ;))
