I see where you're going with that, yes, and it's mostly what I said. :) By "details" I should clarify that it's not just seemingly irrelevant things we don't know -- we have no real idea how Christ actually performed the Atonement, for example. We know that he did, and we know what the results are, but as to how it works? It's a black box to us. And the Atonement is the gospel. :)

I like the Kirtland model. What, you say? When the temple was dedicated some saw, felt and heard nothing. Others saw angels, others heard them, others still felt the wind. Really, I feel the truth is like a rare gem, full of many facets, Christ being the center. I feel the fullness is there, we just do not grasp it all at the same time. When I have new things revealed to me, I start seeing it everywhere and become very aware that it has been there all along. We have all ordinances on the earth necessary and available for exaltation.

The reality is that you can have a row of people sitting in the temple, coming everyday and they will understand different things about the same symbols and experience and all be correct. Each comes with differing degrees of experience and seeking. Each will learn differently. Each understanding makes up a different facet of the truth. Some have more facets than others. As more facets are polished, one begins to see and understand the scriptures had it there all along.

Remember, the Gospel is the "Good News." The good news is that Jesus atoned for our sins, provided a way and showed us how to return to the Father and become joint heirs. We have all that. We have the keys. We have the covenants. We have the ordinances.

What we do not have is all the ancient records.

We do not know the day or the hour of the Savior's return.

We do not know pure Adamic.

We do not know where Lehi landed.

We do not know many things that are interesting to know, including the exact details of the process of creating this world. Though these are religious in nature, these are not the Gospel.

We do not have a class to teach us all the nuances of symbolism of the temple, but we do have the Holy Ghost. We do have a fullness of all that is necessary to progress.

"In its fulness, the gospel includes all the doctrines, principles, laws, ordinances, and covenants necessary for us to be exalted in the celestial kingdom." from LDS.org Gospel Topics "Gospel"

All listed above was restored by Joseph Smith. All ordinances became available to all men in 1978, by revelation to Spencer W. Kimball.

All that is needed is there, even if all of us do not see or grasp it yet.

The prophet continues to receive revelation to guide us in our day and days to come, but the "doctrines, principles, laws, ordinances, and covenants necessary for us to be exalted in the celestial kingdom," are all here and have been since before 27 June 1844.
