Apple telephonic goodness

Categories: Mac, Technology

I got my iPhone today. It’s not perfect, but it blows my old phone out of the water. I am a happy camper. :) More later once I spend more time with it, but of the apps I’ve tried out so far, I rather like Twitterrific, BoxOffice, Enigmo, Labyrinth LE, and Pandora/Shazam/midomi. I also tried Super Monkey Ball and it seems pretty darn cool, but I haven’t yet figured out the correlation between how I move the phone and how my character moves. (It’s not random, but it sure as heck doesn’t make sense to me yet.)

The only significant downside I’m seeing with the phone right now is the battery life. Not sure what to do about that… Anyway, I’m sure that’ll get better, somehow. And in the meantime I’m laboriously transferring my contact list over to Address Book so I can sync it with the phone. (I could do it automatically, yes, but by doing it manually I get to do some spring cleaning as well, getting rid of contacts I really don’t need anymore. It feels good to chloroform the inner packrat.)

I predict the battery life will get better… when you fork over additional hundreds for the next generation of iPhone.

I honestly don’t know how you keep up with all the twitterific, Enigmo, LE…etc etc etc technology! I know it is terribly archaic of me, but I don’t mind having a simple address book and basic calendar in my old school (lowest model) phone.

I’ve thought about getting an itouch but not an iPhone. While they’re way rad and everyone I know that has one loves it, it’s so darned expensive! and I’m talking about monthly fees!

My friends blog (nevblog.com) gushes about how great the 3G is and how he loves it but says:

“iPhone: $400 (With two year contract)
Activation: $35
T-Mobile Contract Break: $200
AT&T Monthly billing: $145

So my first month of having this phone will cost: $780
Subsequent months will be $145/month (more than twice my $71.00 monthly rate for a basic T-mobile phone).”

My response is- HOLY COW! So yeah, I’m glad you like it, it’s a way cool gadget that never gets old, but it sure comes with a big monthly price tag

rikker: You’re just jealous. :P

Carly: Nothing wrong with that. :) (And I think OCD helps a lot with keeping up with technology. ;))

George: Where is that $145/month figure coming from? Mine’s only $90/month. (Still a lot, but definitely not $145.) And it’s $70 base if you take out texting.
