Back to the books

I graduated a year and a half ago, and since that time I haven’t taken any classes. That’s going to change this Tuesday. Now that I’m full-time, you see, I get free tuition, and I can take up to six credits a semester. Being addicted to learning and all, I plan to take full advantage of this boon. :)

The problem, though, is that there are so many classes I want to take. I took a lot of just-for-fun classes during my undergrad years, but let’s face it: there are tons and tons of really cool classes at BYU. The list keeps growing longer. (And if you have any good recommendations, I’m fine with it growing even longer, so leave them in the comments. :))

For this semester I’ve settled on two classes, Welsh 101 and Playwriting 1, both of which look like they’ll be a lot of fun. I’m excited. I miss being in class. I don’t really miss midterms or finals, but the exhilaration of learning makes it worth it. Mmm. I get little wavelets of goosebumps just thinking about it…

I would highly recommend a 100 level personal finance class. Now that I’m planning for the future I wish I could go back to school and take a couple of classes on money management rather than trying to figure it out on my own. Have fun!

where does one start. I second the motion for the business class. There is a student development class that is only 1 credit, and it can teach you how to turn your 401k into 4-5 million by the time you retire.
I would also do almost every Vastu class that is available. Then, I’d go in the visual arts sector and learn drawing, animation, graphic design (which you already know how). Following the arts I would work on technology. Do you know how to solder? do you know the difference between a volt and an ampre? I would most likely take an electronics class.
Following that there are the PE classes. I hear flexibility is fun, and bowling, biking, and tennis. I personally recommend both weightlifting classes excs 191 and 192. I took both from professor Allen and I loved them.
Then I would learn scuba diving.
finally… I would work on my mechanical skills. I would take a class where I could work with wood, and then take a mechanics class (if they offer it). BYU actually has shops where you can do wood work. They also have a shop in the CTB where you can design things and build them with injection molding.

after you do all that, give me an email and I have more. :)

p.s. I now have a blog. byustephen.blogspot.com

James: I took family finance a few years ago but I’ve forgotten most of it. Good call.

Stephen: Thanks for the suggestions! A lot of good ones. And thanks for the link to your blog, too. :)
